How to get to La Désirade from Saint-François?
The only way to reach the island: the ferry. Here's everything you need to know to plan your crossing.
La Désirade can only be reached by sea: there's no airport and no bridge to the island. The most common departure point is the port of Saint-François, in Grande-Terre. Here's how to plan your crossing.
The ferry, the only way in
The Comadile ferry company operates the sea link between Saint-François and La Désirade, generally with two round trips per day. The crossing takes about 45 minutes. It's recommended to book your tickets in advance, especially during high season, and to arrive at the port with a bit of time to spare before departure.
Plan for the sea conditions
The passage between Grande-Terre and La Désirade can sometimes be choppy depending on the weather. If you're prone to seasickness, take precautions (medication, avoid a heavy meal just before) — the crossing is short, but it's better to be prepared.
Arriving in Beauséjour
The boat docks directly in Beauséjour, the island's main village. That's where vehicle rental companies are located, including Buggy Désir — you can pick up your buggy or quad right as you step off the boat, with no time lost.
Parking in Saint-François
If you're driving to Saint-François, parking is available near the port to leave your car for the duration of your stay in La Désirade.
